Ford Transit Campervan Conversion

Ford Transit Custom Campervan

Our popular Classic & Pod conversions now available for Transit Custom

Whilst Volkswagen might hold the torch in the iconic campervan stakes, there are now some serious contenders for affordable, quality conversions nipping at their heels.

One such van is the Ford Transit, a popular British workhorse with a character and history of its own, and now the Custom brings a practical, comfortable and driveable van to the conversion market.

Modern Camper Design

In some ways a more modern looking vehicle than the current VW Transporter body, which has been around since 2002, the mid-sized Ford Transit Custom has an updated, less conservative styling.

With its wedgy window shape there’s a feeling of speed, even when parked up kerbside! And the edition of a body kit can really pimp your camper for a wow factor that just isn’t as easily achievable with a Transporter.

Economic Maintenance

The Transit is straightforward mechanically, sporting a simple suspension setup and widely available, inexpensive parts, making repairs easy on the pocket.

With 80mm more internal width at the door posts, typically the narrowest part of a camper, the Transit Custom opens up the possibilities for a bigger bed without compromising on cabinet storage, and brings a practical, comfortable and driveable campervan to the conversion market.

Versatile Campervan Conversion

The Transit Custom offers great versatility as a camper shell, available in both short and long wheelbase, there are also three roof heights.

If you are thinking of a SWB high-top camper, the Transit Custom conversion offers a big saving over the VW Transporter, which isn’t currently available from the factory in this setup.

There’s even a Plug-in hybrid of the Transit, meaning it may be a good solution for city-based camper owners or those near ULEZ zones.

SCA Elevating Roof

One of the key factors in our decision to convert the Transit Custom is the availability of an SCA elevating roof which can be used to create additional campervan headroom and sleeping space.

It may not be the cheapest roof on the market, but the SCA makes up for its higher price tag with design, quality and repairability, this roof will help your Transit campervan give you camping enjoyment for many decades to come.

Rock & Roll Bed

An M1 tested rock and roll bed system is another criterion which we insist on when designing a campervan.

The Custom ticks this box by being compatible with both our own innovative Cambee Flex bed with optional track system, as well as other heavyweights in the converter world such as the Reimo Variotech 3000 system, which offers Isofix and in vehicle tested assurance.

Help Your Camper Outlast Your Adventures

The Ford Transit is primarily built as a commercial vehicle and longevity beyond its expected 10-ish years will take a little more loving care than the fully galvanised body of the VW Transporter.

To get the most from your campervan, protect your investment and ensure many long years of van life fun and adventure, we recommend a good quality professional wax every year or two, and a protective internal body spray at the point of conversion to give your Transit campervan a helping hand in staying the distance.

All in, the Transit offers plenty of options for an affordable, reliable campervan, with great availability and choice for your base van, and easy repairability for a good many years of family fun.
